Mother's intuition led me to take Heidi to the Chiropractor with me last week. She seemed to always be looking to the right and seemed uncomfortable looking any other direction. In her carseat or being held she always seemed to slump to the right. The Chiropractor examined her and said her joints all seemed fine but he felt some nodules in the muscle on the right side of her neck. He said it's called Torticollis and to "strip" the muscle and talk to her Dr about it at her next appointment. I did some research (feel free to google it) and it can be quite serious if it's not noticed early and if treatment is delayed. The short version of the explanation is that there are either scar tissue nodules or little fibrous tumors in the muscle and they are causing her muscle to be contracted, thus pulling her neck to the right (hoping for scar tissue). Her prognosis is good though because she is responding to massage therapy. A friend of mine who is a lmt has offered her services for free and we plan to start that next week. Hopefully she continues to respond well and we can avoid all the nastiness (skull shaping helmet, neck brace, surgery) that can be necessary if the therapy doesn't work. Generally it's cleared up by 18-24 months, so I expect we're in for a long process. Thanks in advance for keeping her healing in your prayers.
