Spelunking at Lava Beds National Park

The Modoc must have had an alien encounter???

Modoc Petroglyphs

My Dad (Robert/Grandpa) near the visitor center overlooking most of Lava Beds National Park.

Tonia (Gaga) Ethan and Chris near the visitor center headed back to camp after a morning of cave exploration.

at the wall of petroglyphs. The Modoc used to canoe up to the cliff face (Tule lake used to cover much more land) and carve their stories into the rock.

Sort of for my birthday, but not really, we went to Lava Beds National Park for a weekend camping trip. The Lava Beds are very cool. Full of caves to explore (spelunking means cave exploration) and much history to learn and discover. Since I was still recovering from my little baby scare we kinda took it easy with the hiking and such. Driving to most of the caves instead of walking or biking, and Ethan and I bailed on a very neat area called Captain Jack's Stronghold and napped instead. Ethan was occasionally nervous in the caves since they're so dark and quiet, but he still had a great time and keeps telling people how we went into dark, dark, dark caves. He also says that we saw a mountain where some naughty indians wrote on the mountain wall (he's not allowed and knows that writing on walls is naughty)!! Isn't that hilarious!!!
